The Buddhanut is the fruit of the tree species Pterygota alata, which belongs to the subfamily of the Sterkulien- or Stinkbaumgewächse. The distribution extends from India to the Philippines. The nuts are very decorative. The shells are not as hard and stable as the coconut, the nutshell should therefore not be constantly housed in humid terrariums. As a decorative, planted element on the windowsill, it can last for many years.
